Throwback: Recap of the 2018 Chicago Flower Show

We followed the yellow brick road right into the Subaru sponsored garden at this year’s Chicago Flower & Garden Show. The 2018 theme was “FlowerTales, Every Garden Has A Story To Tell” and it spotlighted all of the unique stories that inspire our city and it’s diverse communities. The show included 18 gardens, three vignettes, and a marketplace. You could even take the interactive GrowIt! Tour to explore all of the plants in any of the gardens at the show.

So if you didn’t get the chance to attend the show, we’ve provided a quick throwback.

The night before the show officially began,  the Chicago Flower & Garden Show hosted their annual “Evening in Bloom” which features flowers as fashion. A portion of the proceeds benefited Bernie’s Book Bank and the Get Growing Foundation. We were able to chat with one of the show designers, Debi Lilly, owner of A Perfect Event. Check out our blog post here to read how she prepped for the show.

When the show started the next day the fun really began. There were people from all walks of life making their way to Navy Pier to catch a glimpse of the beautiful gardens. The were activities for all ages. The JULIE Kids Activity Garden stayed busy the entire week. Kids were able to design their own story stones, make flower crowns, and even to learn how to pot their first plant.

GrowIt! had the pleasure of taking over the Chicago Flower Instagram page twice! We shared with plant lovers who couldn’t make it to the show all the exciting things happening.

There were different competitions on going on including the window box, cake decorating, and tablescapes. We had the pleasure of meeting tablescape designer Amanda Fowler-Arias. She was sweet enough to not only share her experience with the show’s competition, but she even gave us a behind the scenes look at how she created the magic of her display. Head over to the blog to see her member spotlight.

Last but not least GrowIt!‘s very own Chelsey Groh took the main stage to demonstrate and inform the visitors on how they could take the show home with them. She explained how our Tours To-Go feature allows you to not only explore the garden but to learn about the plant and how you could care for them.

“The show is always one of the highlights of our year.  We enjoy getting to interact with the visitors and our GrowIt! members that come through.  I loved having the opportunity to speak on the Gardening Live stage about how not only to take the show home but the top tips and tricks for using GrowIt! year round.” -Chelsey

It was great getting a chance to meet the GrowIt! community members who made it out to the show! Keep in touch with Chicago Flower year round by following their GrowIt! profile.
